they will happen.

events about to unfold! |

Why The Antichrist Will
Not Originate In Northern Iraq
An Ipsos poll says that 25 percent of adults believe it is at least somewhat likely that Jesus Christ will return to Earth in 2007 2008. Of white evangelical Christian adults it's 66%. Want to know why Jesus won't come in 2007 2008, before most find out in Jan 1, 2008 2009? »» Read Featured Article
Question: What if Iraq eventually divides into three separate states
Kurds, Sunni, and Shiite? Could they be the three kings within the ten horns (i.e., the geographical
area of the old Roman Empire) that the Antichrist will conquer?
Or alternatively, could the semi-autonomous Kurds break away from the rest of Iraq and become Daniel's
new "little horn" country? Could the Antichrist rise up within the Kurdish area of Mosul, i.e., the
location of ancient Nineveh, Assyria?
“And the ten horns out of this kingdom are ten kings that shall arise: and another shall rise after them;
and he shall be diverse from the first, */and he shall subdue three kings/*.” (Daniel 7:24)
KJV
Answer: Those are very interesting theories, but there are several reasons
why I believe it is not very likely that a new country in northern Iraq could become Daniel's "little horn"
country.
To begin our analysis, here are some basic scriptural facts regarding the geographical origin of the
Antichrist...
Antichrist will originate from somewhere within the geographical area of the old Roman
Empire. (Dan. 2:41-44) (Dan. 7:7-8, 19-24) (Dan. 9:26-27).
Antichrist will originate from somewhere within the geographical area of the old Grecian
Empire. (Dan. 8:8-9).
Antichrist will originate from somewhere within the geographical area of the old Assyrian
Empire. (Isa. 10:5-6) (Isa. 10:20-34) (Isa. 14:24-27) (Isa. 19) (Isa. 23:13) (Isa. 27:12-13) (Isa. 30:18-33)
(Isa. 31:4-9) (Micah 5:3-15) (Micah 7:7-20).
Antichrist will originate from somewhere within the geographical area of the old Syrian
Dynasty, i.e., Lebanon and Syria. (Dan. 11:35-45).
Although Iraq and Iran were a part of the old Syrian Dynasty during short intervals of time, often they
were not because the Syrian kings, based in Syria, usually exerted only a tenuous, or even non-existent
influence on the more distant eastern parts of Alexander the Great's original
empire.
That is why the dynasty was known primarily as a Syrian dynasty.
Nevertheless, it might be argued that Iraq was a part of the old Syrian Dynasty often enough to
be considered a "legitimate" part of that dynasty.
But even so, there are additional reasons why Daniel's "little horn" country probably will not appear
anywhere within northern Iraq.
For example, the Antichrist will originate from both a tiny country and a brand-new country (Dan. 7:8)
(Dan. 8:9).
However, an independent Kurdish country would not be a tiny country in its geographical size compared to
all of the other countries scattered throughout the geographical area of the old Roman and Grecian
empires.
Furthermore, the Antichrist will be a political leader BEFORE he first rises to power. (Dan. 7:8) (Dan.
8:9) (Dan. 8:23).
Accordingly, the Antichrist must be a prominent politician, not a social or military leader, when he
declares the "little horn" country into existence.
Obviously this scriptural requirement narrows down the number of potential candidates living
among the Kurds.
Likewise, the Antichrist will exercise dictatorial control over his country in stark contrast to the democratic
nature of neighboring countries within the geographical area of the old Roman Empire.
(Dan. 7:24).
Thus, the "little horn" country must be a dictatorship, not any type of democracy as currently envisioned
by the Kurds.
In fact, most people throughout all of Iraq seem to be committed to the concept of a unified, democratic
country to one extent or another, thereby making it highly unlikely that northern Iraq will become Daniel's
little horn country.
Moreover, when he first appears, the Antichrist will conquer three horns within the geographical area of the
ten horns, i.e., the countries within the geographical area of the old Roman Empire, so those three horns
must be older, established countries because the ten
horns represent older, established countries; only the "little horn" will be a brand-new country. (Dan. 7:8, 20,
24).
At that time, the Antichrist will also forge a new world empire into existence that will include Lebanon,
Syria, Iraq, Iran, and Afghanistan. (Dan. 7:8) (Dan. 8:9) (Rev. 13:2).
Additionally, the Bible very clearly predicts that the Antichrist will conquer armies in a southern direction
(Dan. 8:9), and in an eastern direction (Dan. 8:9) (Hab. 1:9), and that he will also invade Israel during his
initial ascendancy to power (Dan. 8:9).
Since several other scriptures also predict that Israel will be conquered by the Antichrist during his
initial rise to power, it seems clear that Israel will be one of the three horns subdued by the Antichrist.
(See chapter 2 in my book.) Daniel 8:9 makes that a very definite
prediction.
Furthermore, in order to inspire world peace and prosperity, the Antichrist will have to conquer the
enemies of peace. Since Iran and Syria are the primary instigators of violence and instability in
the Middle East region, including Iraq, that means Syria must also be one of the three horns that will be
conquered by the Antichrist.
However, as noted above, the Bible predicts that the Antichrist will conquer only in a southern and eastern
direction during his rise to power. Since Syria is not located east or south of the Kurdish region in
northern Iraq, it is very unlikely that northern Iraq will be the area from which the Antichrist
will originate.
In other words, if the Antichrist began his military conquests from somewhere in northern Iraq, how would
he assimilate Syria into his new empire when the Bible predicts that he will NOT invade countries located
west of his point of origin?
Furthermore, when the Antichrist begins to conquer in a southern and eastern direction and towards Israel,
he will subdue three countries that were once a part of the old Roman Empire.
So once again, if the Antichrist started his military campaign from northern Iraq, how could he subdue three
"Roman Empire countries" when he will conquer only towards the east and the south and towards
Israel?
At most, he could subdue only two horns within the geographical area of Daniel's ten horns, i.e., Israel and
Iraq, because no other countries within the geographical area of the old Roman Empire are located south
or east of northern Iraq.
Then finally, there are several biblical prophecies concerning the city of Tyre and the Antichrist which imply
quite convincingly that the Antichrist will originate within Lebanon, not northern
Iraq...
The Antichrist will rebuild the city of Tyre, Lebanon. (Isa. 23:1, 5-9, 11, 13, 15,
17-18).
The Antichrist will designate the city of Tyre, Lebanon as his political capital. (Ezek. 28:12,
18-19).
Tyre, Lebanon will become a center of international trade and commerce. (Ezek. 27:1-4,
12, 25, 27, 32-36) (Ezek. 26:15-21).
Tyre, Lebanon will become a mighty military power that will instill "fear" and "terror"
throughout the world. (Ezek. 26:17, 21) (Ezek. 27:36).
Therefore, in conclusion, I believe it is most likely that the Antichrist will originate from a tiny, new country
within Lebanon.
